Introduction to the Maritime Industry (84101): Introduces the facilities, methods, and processes used in the shipbuilding gad repair industry. Describes the impact the industry has on the US economy and explores the various craft opportunities available to workers. Provides an overview of the safety practices specific to the industry.

Student must:

  • Must be 18+
  • Must be eligible to work in the US
  • Provide an overview of the maritime manufacturing/repair industry
  • Identify and explain the terms commonly used in the maritime manufacturing/repair industry
  • Describe the different work processes related to shipyards, repair yards, and rigs
  • Identify the different careers within the maritime manufacturing/repair industry
  • Explain the purposes of OSHA,  the Environmental Protection agency, the US Coast Guard, the US Navy, the American Bureau of Shipping, Norway-based DNV, and Lloyd’s Register of Shipping
  • Explain the maritime manufacturing/repair industry specific safety considerations
