NCCER Maritime Pipefitting

Course Description

Pipefitting Hand Tools (85103-13): Covers hand tool safety, as well as procedures for selecting, inspecting, using, and maintaining pipefitting hand tools.  Includes pipe wrenches, pipe stands, pipe vises, levels, and pipe fabrication tools and aids.

Socket Weld Pipe Fabrication (85203-13): Describes the pipe fittings used for maritime socket welded piping systems and how to determine the lengths of pipe between points of connection.  Explains how to prepare and fit both pipe and fittings.

Drawings & Details Sheets (85208-13): Identifies the types and parts of drawings commonly used by maritime pipefitters. Explains how to interpret the information contained in pipe drawings to create the desired piping system

14-week program, offered Monday – Thursday

Students must:

  • be 18+
  • be eligible to work in the US
  • have a valid id
  • pass a drug test

A certificate of training is provided upon successful completion of the program. While this program can enhance job opportunities, we do not guarantee job placement.

Course Objective

  • Describe the safety requirements that apply to the use of pipefitter hand tools.
  • Explain how to properly care for selected pipefitter hand tools.
  • Explain how to safely and properly use selected pipefitter hand tools.
  • Identify tools and state their uses.
  • Identify and explain socket weld fittings
  • Read and interpret socket weld pipe drawings.
  • Determine pipe lengths between socket weld fittings.
  • Describe how to fabricate socket weld fittings to pipe.
  • Identify parts of drawings.
  • Identify types of drawings.
  • Identify drawings used by maritime pipefitters.

Course Prerequisite

Must be 18 years old and older, eligible to work in the United States, have a valid ID, and pass a drug test.
