In June 2009, AIDT broke ground for The Maritime Training Center with construction beginning in July 2009. The center officially opened on November 8, 2010. Our 67,000 square foot facility features classrooms, computer lab, and a non-destructive testing lab. Our state-of-the-art assembly room has the capacity to host large classes and events. On the shop floor, there are 78 welding booths, a CNC plasma table, and a large lay-down yard with overhead crane access. We also have a counter-balanced rough terrain forklift, aerial-lift, and a 10-ton overhead crane and rigging for safety training.
Our Vision is to educate and train citizens in industrial, maritime, and emerging technologies that will enable Alabama to be a world leader.
Our Mission is provide a technically-trained, highly-skilled, and educated workforce for industrial and maritime-related technologies, and to promote the growth and expansion of businesses through craft education.
MTC is committed to providing Alabama citizens with skill-specific training and industry-recognized credentials designed to meet the needs of industrial and maritime-related industries.
Troy is an Mobile Alabama native with 39 years of experience. He joined AIDT Maritime Training Center in 2007 after working at Build Mobile. Troy is certified to teach structural welding, structural fitting and all safety courses.
Josh, a native of Georgia, joined AIDT Maritime Training Center in March 2024. Along with 2 years in the Army, Josh has 14 years of welding experience. Prior to joining AIDT Maritime Training Center, he worked at Huntingdon
Ray, Lead Maritime Instructor, is originally from Mobile, Alabama. He served 4 years in the Marines and has 23 years of experience in the field. Ray initially began work at Austal before joining AIDT Maritime Training Center in 2007. He moved to the oil and gas industry as an Certified Welding Inspector and returned to AIDT Maritime Training Center April of 2021.
Davey, a Mobile Alabama native, has 12 years of experience. Davey is a NCCER Craft Trainer in all areas and is qualified to teach pipe and structural welding, as well as pipe fitting. He also is an overhead crane instructor. Previously an employee of Austal, he has been with AIDT Maritime Training Center since October 2024.
Justin is a Mississippi native with 22 years of experience. Prior to joining AIDT Maritime Training Center, Justin worked at Austal. Justin is qualified to teach structural welding and structural fitting, as well other courses.
Tim, originally from Florida, has been with AIDT Maritime Training Center since July 2005. With 50 years of experience, Tim is certified to teach Core, Structural Welding and Ariel Lift. Prior to joining AIDT Maritime Training Center, Tim worked at KADANT BLACK CLAWSON.
Paul has 24 years of experience and is qualified to teach all classes except for pipefitting. Prior to arriving at AIDT Maritime Training Center in April 2021, Paul worked at Austal. Paul is a native of Mobile, Alabama.
