Course Description:

Welding Safety (29101-15): Covers safety equipment, protective clothing, and procedures applicable to the cutting and welding of metals.

Reading Welding Detail Drawings (29202-15): Identifies and explains welding detail drawings. Describes lines, fills, object views, and dimensioning on drawings. Explains how to use notes on drawings and the bill of material. Explains how to sketch and draw basic welding drawings.

SMAW Electrodes (29108-15): Describes electrode characteristics and different types of filler metals. Reviews the role of the American Welding Society (AWS) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).  Explains proper storage and control of filler metals and identifies the use of codes.

Students must:

  • be 18+
  • be eligible to work in the US

Course Objective:

  • Describe basic welding processes, the welding trade, and training/apprenticeship programs
  • Identify PPE related to the welding trade
  • Identify welding safety practices related to specific hazards or environments
  • Describe oxyfuel cutting & related safe work practices
  • Identify oxyfuel cutting equipment and consumables
  • Set up, light, and shut down oxyfuel equipment
  • Perform various oxyfuel cutting procedures
  • Describe the object views used to depict welding details.
  • Identify basic drawing elements related to welding detail drawings.
