Students must:

  • be 18 +
  • be eligible to work in the US
  • have completed Nondestructive Testing: Visual Testing
  • Learn the theory of magnetism and magnetic fields
  • Define the characteristics of magnets
  • Differentiate between types of magnetic fields (circular vs. longitudinal) and how they are created
  • Determine the proper method to be used, i.e. AC vs. DC, and the advantages and disadvantages of each
  • Know various types of discontinuities and their effects
  • Identify the B-H curve (or hysteresis loop) and its meaning on various materials
  • Learn demagnetization procedures
  • Differentiate between relevant and non-relevant (false) indications
  • Learn and apply widely used codes, standards, and specifications
  • Address safety and health concerns
